Letter to my boy

Dear Wyatt
Wyatt you are one year old now and the love of our lives. This last year has been amazing and you have grown up into such a different boy than you were way back when you were a little peanut. You are relaxed and patient, you are kind and loving. You can sit in a car for 8 ½ hours and only cry once, you did this on the way to Maine and I got out a book with little songs on it and you stopped crying right away. First time Moms really like to gloat and be proud, but, I haven’t even had a chance because when other people spend a lot of time around you they are amazed at how happy and content and good you are. Right now – 13 months and 4 days old – you are crawling so fast and are into EVERYTHING at once. It has been a big adjustment for Dad and me to realize we need to watch you very closely and can’t just run into the other room like we used to. This morning you were in the pets water bowls, pulling the toilet paper roll off and pulling on the front door all in a matter of minutes. You stand up like a champ and last night you even tried to let go of the high chair you were leaning on, but, fell down pretty quickly. You don’t fear very much, which makes me fear 10 X more of course , and you just want to get your hands on everything there is to see in the kitchen, bathroom and diding room – all rooms you couldn’t get into until recently when you managed to get over the step up from the living room.
Right now your favorite toys are a kind of rattle with bells in it, the Homer Simpson phone – which wasn’t a toy but has become one now – your car which plays “La Cucaracha” almost constantly, the Home Depot truck which makes back up and engine starting sounds and of course the old stand bys, books, teethers the toy phones and your learning table.
You are an adventurous and hearty eater – your favorites are sweet potatoes, watermelon, toast, wagon wheels, carrots, turkey burgers, pasta, mac ‘n cheese and various vegetarian meals disguised as meat – sausage, burgers and chicken nuggets. The other night you ate brussel sprouts and plums at dinner – two new things and you liked them both just fine.
We spend a lot of time giggling as your giggle button is very close to the surface and set off constantly with great gusto. You think many things are funny and we are learning anew how funny it can be to sneak up on someone and say Boo! Your smile in the morning – ALWAYS you have a smile – brightens my day and makes each new day a fabulous and promising day filled with big belly laughs and huge smiles. That’s another unique and wonderful thing about you Wyatt – when you wake up in the morning you never cry, you play in your crib and hum and stand up and as soon as I get in there you flash me a huge bright smile. Same thing for Dad as soon as you see him you let out a smile like you’ll never get a chance to smile again so this one better be good…he thinks you smile bigger for him and I let him think that, but, it’s not true, you smile just as huge for us both and make us feel like the most special people on earth. You are the most special person on earth and I can’t wait for each new day with you – you make my life what it is, fantastic.
Mom
